Archive Note

Created during a visit to the studio of British figurative artist Noël St. John Harnden, this journal documents the atmosphere surrounding the act of painting rather than the finished works themselves. The photographs move between moments of observation, gestures of creation, and the quiet presence of the studio, preserving the environment in which the work comes into being.

Reflection

I have long been drawn to gritty textures, layered surfaces, and unorthodox uses of reflection. Rather than treating reflections as mirrors, I see them as visual interruptions—elements that fracture space, obscure certainty, and invite multiple readings of the same scene, allowing multiple worlds to exist within a single frame. Alongside light and geometry, they remain one of the visual languages I return to most often. During this period, I often reflected on the allegory of the one-eyed king—the idea that perception is shaped less by what we look at than by how we choose to see. The illuminated EXIT sign became more than a symbol of departure; it became a quiet metaphor for transformation.
